How biomes work in Steal an Egg

The Steal an Egg map is one long track. Your base sits at the start, and each biome further down the track is guarded by a sleeping monster sitting on a nest of eggs. Walk in, pick one up and run home. If the guardian wakes and catches you, you drop the egg, and in some biomes it gets carried back to the nest.

Each biome has a sign at its entrance with a speed requirement. That number is the speed you need to outrun the guardian. It's a recommendation, not a lock. You can walk into the Titan Temple with a fraction of the speed, but you won't make it back. Players who tried to rob the Titan Temple with exactly 7 billion speed, the number on the sign, still got caught over and over, because the egg they grabbed was a big one.

The speed ladder, explained

The table above lists every sign. Look at how the jumps grow:

  • Forest to Desert is a gentle climb: 0, 900, then 10,000 speed. A fresh account clears it in minutes, mostly from index rewards.
  • From the Jungle (40K) through the Volcano (700K) the requirement grows about 4x per biome. This is where you start needing treadmill upgrades and trails.
  • Prehistoric (18M) is the first real wall. The jump from the Abyss Ocean's 2.5M is about 7x, and the T-Rex is fast.
  • Cosmic (700M) is the biggest single jump in the game, nearly 40x, and it's also where divines start. This is where most free players spend the longest time on the treadmill.
  • After that it's Cherry Blossom (2.5B), Titan Temple (7B), Angels & Demons (20B) and the Enchanted Forest (50B).

Use the speed planner to see how many minutes on your current treadmill each of those costs.

Tricks for stealing above your speed

Being under the requirement doesn't always mean you can't steal. Players in our sources pulled eggs from biomes well above their speed with these:

  1. Take the smallest egg. Big eggs slow you down. A tiny egg from a hard biome is still a better pet than a giant one from an easy biome.
  2. Drop and pick up. When the guardian is about to catch you, drop the egg. It stops chasing, so you can pick the egg up again and keep running. Repeat it all the way home. It's slow but it works, and it's how one creator dragged a Cherry Blossom egg home with 700M speed against a 2.5B sign.
  3. Run sideways or zigzag. Some guardians track poorly on diagonals. Juking got a Prehistoric egg home with 2.7M speed against a 17M sign.
  4. Use a speed potion. The Doctor's shop flask gives 1.25x speed for five minutes. The sample shop sold 1.5x and 2.5x bursts during events. The number one player called the flask her secret tip.
  5. Just get it out of the biome. Several guardians stop once you cross their border, so you only need enough speed for the first stretch.

Night, day and resets

Steal an Egg runs on a short day and night cycle. When night falls you can't steal, but eggs in your pen grow faster, so night is the time to train on the treadmill. At daybreak every nest in every biome resets with new eggs. Many players also server hop, because each server rolls its own eggs, and hopping is the easiest way to find a heavy secret.

Divine eggs are the exception. When a divine spawns it appears in every server at the same time, but at a different size in each. Coordinated groups use this: one person scouts servers for the biggest copy while the rest wait to join.

What each biome is for

Stage Biomes What you're there for
Tutorial Forest, Lake Index rewards, the Leviathan
Early Desert, Jungle First thousands per second, first secret
Mid Snow, Volcano, Abyss Ocean First eternals, Ice Bat, 100M+ pets
Wall Prehistoric Mosasaurus, T-Rex secret
Divine Cosmic, Cherry Blossom Unicorn, Kitsune, Lunar Dragon
Late Titan Temple, Angels & Demons Night Flame, Archangel, World Burner, Aetherion
Endgame Enchanted Forest Royal Sky Whale, Wisp quest, Enchanted mutation

Index rewards per biome

Every biome has its own index page. Hatching a new pet fills a slot and pays out cash and speed straight away. Early on this pays more than the pets do: one free-to-play run went from 24K to 63K speed in a single claim. Completing a biome's whole index unlocks that biome's bat skin, and each new bat hits harder. The Snow index gives the Ice Bat, and the Titan Temple gives an axe that sends players flying. That's reason enough to hatch one of every egg before you move on. Typing a biome's name into the index filter shows you every egg it can drop.

Hidden areas

The track isn't the whole map. There's a secret room with dev Easter eggs, a waterfall (a lava fall on the demon side) where two players can fuse divines, light and dark pads that make 50/50 fusion eggs, and a door inside the Enchanted Forest tree that only opens after the Wisp quest. Our fusion guide and Enchanted Forest guide cover them.
