A game that grew up in public
Steal an Egg is barely three months old, and it has already changed more than many Roblox games do in a year. If you came in recently, a lot of what older videos show, including the frog, the doom-scrolling treadmill and the Sakura incubator, no longer exists. This post puts the changes in order, as best we can reconstruct them from gameplay footage, so the rest of the wiki makes sense.
A quick note on sources: we don't have access to official patch notes, so dates below come from what players say and show on camera. Where we're unsure of exact timing, we say "around".
July 2026: launch
Steal an Egg launched on July 25, 2026, from a developer group whose name literally ends in "and Collect Rare Pets". The pitch was simple and copied cleverly from the Steal a Brainrot formula: sneak up on sleeping animals, steal their eggs, hatch them into pets that earn money, train speed to rob scarier animals.
Early Steal an Egg looked different from today:
- The map ended at fewer biomes. Creators who joined early describe the Cosmic area as "the end".
- The doom-scrolling treadmill let you scroll short videos in-game, "eat or pass" food clips and all, to gain speed. One creator joked it was "going to rot everybody's brains". You could even like and comment on the clips.
- A frog NPC took eggs and gave back special items.
- Brainrot egg packs were front and centre, with the 1% Strawberry Elephant as the headline pull.
Player counts exploded. Within weeks, creators were reporting 150,000 people online at once.
The takedown and the return
At some point in the first weeks, Steal an Egg was taken offline and then put back. The number one player told an interviewer she wanted to play "the same day they deleted it", and her first session came after it returned, about a month before the interview. The doom-scrolling treadmill didn't come back with it, and players still ask for it ("they removed the doom scrolling videos, I need them back").
Mutations: the first wave and the gap
Early on there was a way to mutate eggs. Then mutation items disappeared for a while. That gap shaped the current leaderboard: the player who is now number one saved every mutation item during the gap, and when the next mutation update arrived she could use them all on big eggs while everyone else started from zero.
The Sakura incubator, which gave about a 40% chance of the Bloom mutation and a rare Spirit Bloom, was also removed during this period. "If only the Sakura incubator was still in the game" is a common sigh in later videos.
September: Demonic eggs and new end biomes
Around the September 4 update, the Demonic Egg Collection brought the Archdemon Dragon and the Balrog. Both are gone now and exist only on old accounts and in creator-panel tests. The map kept growing: Titan Temple, then Angels & Demons with two divines in one biome (Archangel and World Burner), and the first Aetherion fusions at the back waterfall.
Rifts appeared around this time too, both egg rifts and the Abyss Overlord boss rift, along with the boss shop and its 2x cash boosts.
Dr. Scramble's era
Then came the mad scientist. Dr. Scramble's Revenge started as an admin event: Sammy from Steal a Brainrot "took over" with a Strawberry Elephant army, players charged an EMP, and Dr. Scramble revealed himself in a mind-control helmet. Everyone got a 67.
The full lab update followed, with:
- The Scrambled mutation and potions bought with chemical bottles.
- A recurring boss fight every 30 minutes and Boss Mastery (Pink Dragon at 100 wins).
- The lab machine that eats specific eggs.
- Unstable DNA and the divine Octophant.
- A secret door, lost drone parts and a dev room full of Easter eggs.
Mutations were plentiful again, and the leaderboard ceiling jumped into the trillions.
The mini-game era
Admin Abuse grew more elaborate. Capture the Egg, Red Light Green Light with a giant laser-eyed Ben, and T-Rex dodge waves gave low-speed players a real shot at eternals. One Admin Abuse showed about 7 million players in the game.
October: the Enchanted Forest
The biggest update so far opened the Enchanted Forest behind a 50B speed sign:
- A beanstalk event with fireflies, rain clouds and a whale ride.
- The Wisp quest and the hidden Enchanted Tree room.
- Butterfly Bloom, the butterfly net and the Enchanted mutation.
- The Royal Sky Whale divine and the fused Spirit World Guardian, the strongest pet on record at $2.2 trillion per second.
- The Guardian treadmill and, later, the Hammer.
- Price cuts on treadmills and passes for newer accounts.
The admin also teased mounts: a hatched lion "laid down and he was riding him", followed by "we mount next week".
What's next?
If the pattern holds, expect a new biome or system almost every Saturday, each with a divine that resets the top of the tier list. Mounts look like the next big feature. Whatever comes, we'll add it to this timeline. Follow the blog for recaps.
