Speed isn't the only way home

Every biome sign in Steal an Egg tells you how fast you need to be. Experienced players treat that number as a suggestion. With the tricks below, creators in our sources stole Cherry Blossom eggs with less than a third of the required speed, carried Prehistoric eggs home with a sixth of it and took eternals they had no business reaching. None of this is an exploit. It's all how the guardians and the other players behave.

Trick 1: Drop and pick up

How it works: guardians chase the egg carrier. When you drop the egg, the guardian stops chasing you. Pick the egg up again and you get a fresh head start.

How to do it:

  1. Grab the egg and run.
  2. When the guardian is about to reach you, drop the egg.
  3. Step back while the guardian loses interest.
  4. Pick it up again and keep running.
  5. Repeat until you're out of the biome or home.

One creator used this to carry a Cherry Blossom egg home with 700M speed against a 2.5B sign: "you just drop it just as I get close to you and pick it up again. I just have to do this all the way back." Another did the same from the Angels & Demons biome with 10B against 20B. A free-to-play run used it in the Volcano with barely enough speed.

When it fails: in a busy server, someone else may pick up your dropped egg. Do it in quiet servers, or after the rush for an egg has died down.

Trick 2: Zigzag and sideways running

Some guardians turn slowly. Running in a zigzag, or angling sideways instead of straight, makes them overshoot. One creator juked the Prehistoric T-Rex with 2.7M speed against a 17M sign: "I'm kind of juking this thing. I legit didn't think this was going to work." A jump technique worked in the Cherry Blossom for another.

Combine this with the drop trick for the hardest steals.

Trick 3: Take the smallest egg

Egg weight slows you down. The same player who couldn't get a big Prehistoric egg home at 18M speed grabbed small ones easily. If you're below the sign, always go for the smallest egg in the nest. Remember what you're there for: the index reward and a pet from a better biome. A small egg from a hard biome usually beats a big one from an easy biome anyway.

Trick 4: Just leave the biome

Several guardians give up once you cross the biome border. "We got it out of the biome, that's all we needed to do." If you can reach the border, you're often safe from the guardian, though not from other players.

Trick 5: Speed flasks and potions

The Doctor's shop speed flask (fifth option) gives 1.25x speed for 5 minutes. The number one player called it her secret tip: "It allows you to get huge eggs even if you don't have enough speed. Most people don't use them." During events the sample shop sold 1.5x and 2.5x bursts. One creator used a 1.5x potion to outrun a guardian they'd been failing against all day: "What an awesome trick."

Use a flask on a single high-value attempt, like a divine or a giant eternal. Don't burn them on small eggs.

Trick 6: Let someone else take the hit

Guardians focus on one carrier at a time. When another player is being chased, the rest of the nest is wide open. In mini games and crowded divine spawns, players deliberately act as distractions for each other. "Someone distracted him. Come on." If you're in a group, plan it.

Dealing with other players

Hitting. Hitting a carrier makes them drop the egg. You can swing while carrying, so fight back instead of just running. Better weapons knock further: the Axe and the Hammer can send a rival across the map.

Traps. Traps freeze anyone carrying an egg who touches them. Expect them on the main path near the late biomes, and place your own. They catch thieves heading for their own base too.

Stealing from thieves. It's in the name of the game. A free-to-play account got its first eternal by hitting the player who had just stolen it. Watch for players running past with glowing eggs.

Safe zone. You can't use items in the safe zone by your base, so the danger ends once you're inside it. Many steals are lost in the last few metres, so don't relax early.

Server hopping

Each server rolls its own eggs, and nests reset every day cycle. When a biome is empty or the egg you want is gone, hop servers. Players hunting giant Stags or Mosasauruses hop dozens of times. For divines, hopping has a twist: the divine spawns in every server at once but at a different size, so a team can scout servers and report the biggest one.

Putting it together: a hard steal

Say you have 5B speed and want a Titan Temple egg (7B sign):

  1. Hop until the Temple has a small egg and few players.
  2. Drink a speed flask (5B × 1.25 = 6.25B).
  3. Grab the smallest egg and zigzag out.
  4. Drop and pick up whenever the gorilla closes in.
  5. Once out of the biome, watch for traps on the way home.

That's how a 4.7B-speed creator in our sources took eggs from the Titan Temple. For the raw numbers behind each biome, see the biome table.
